Quick verdict
Short answer: Systeme.io’s free plan is the most capable free tier in this category — 2,000 contacts, unlimited emails, 3 sales funnels, an online course, a blog, a custom domain and 0% transaction fees, permanently, with no credit card. It is the only free plan where a beginner can go from landing page to paid customer without spending anything.

It is also tighter than the feature list suggests. The free plan allows 1 automation rule, 1 workflow, 1 tag and 1 email campaign — and delivering a single lead magnet typically uses up the rule and the tag. That is the thing to understand before you build anything.
The screenshots below are from a real Systeme.io free account, not marketing material. All figures checked on 21 July 2026.
What you actually get on the free plan

| Free plan allowance | Amount |
|---|---|
| Contacts | 2,000 |
| Emails | Unlimited |
| Sales funnels | 3 (15 funnel steps total) |
| Online courses | 1 (unlimited students) |
| Blogs | 1 |
| Custom domains | 1 |
| Affiliate program | 1 |
| Automation rules | 1 |
| Workflows | 1 |
| Tags | 1 |
| Email campaigns | 1 |
| Transaction fees | 0% |
| Expiry | None — no credit card required |
Read the bolded rows together and the shape of the plan becomes clear. The capacity numbers are generous: 2,000 contacts and unlimited sends beat most paid entry plans elsewhere. The automation numbers are ones. That combination is unusual, and it defines who this plan suits.
The four “1”s: what they mean in practice
This is the part most Systeme.io reviews skip, so here it is concretely.
A standard beginner setup looks like this: someone lands on your opt-in page, gives you their email, gets tagged, and an automation fires to email them the lead magnet. That single, ordinary flow consumes 1 tag and 1 automation rule — your entire allowance for both.
What you can still do afterwards:
- Send unlimited broadcast newsletters to your whole list — broadcasts are not “campaigns” in Systeme.io’s accounting
- Build up to 3 funnels and 15 steps
- Sell your course and take payments at 0% fees
- Run an affiliate program
What you cannot do:
- A second automated sequence (a re-engagement series, an abandoned-cart follow-up, a second lead magnet with its own delivery)
- Segment meaningfully — one tag means you cannot separate buyers from non-buyers, or webinar attendees from cold subscribers
- Any branching logic

So the free plan is not a scaled-down version of the paid product. It is a complete version of a simple product. If your plan is “build one funnel, deliver one lead magnet, sell one thing”, it fits exactly. If your plan involves segments and sequences, you will hit the wall in week two.
The dashboard and CRM

The dashboard is deliberately plain: new leads over the last 31 days, a live updates panel, and quick links to funnels, emails, courses and the blog. There is no configuration ritual and no onboarding maze — the whole platform sits on one navigation bar.

The CRM is included on the free plan, and it is more than a contact list. Contacts can be filtered by email, name, address, country and phone. For a free tier this is genuinely unusual; most tools reserve contact filtering for paid plans.
Building a site or funnel

Creating a website takes three fields: name, domain and language. That is representative of the whole product — Systeme.io consistently chooses fewer decisions over more control.
The page editor is drag-and-drop and templated. It will not win design awards, and if you have used Webflow or Framer you will find it limited. But it produces a working opt-in page in an afternoon without touching code, which is the actual job for most people starting out.
Note the free plan includes 1 custom domain. That matters more than it sounds: your pages can live at yourdomain.com instead of a platform subdomain, at no cost. GetResponse and MailerLite both reserve custom domains for paid tiers.
Where Systeme.io genuinely wins
- 2,000 contacts free, with unlimited sends. Four times GetResponse’s free tier, eight times MailerLite’s.
- 0% transaction fees. Systeme.io takes nothing from what you sell. Kit’s free plan lets you sell but takes a cut per transaction.
- No branding on your emails. beehiiv, GetResponse and MailerLite all stamp free-tier emails.
- It replaces several tools. Funnel builder, email tool, course host, checkout, blog and affiliate program in one login — no integrations to maintain, no second subscription.
- The plan never expires. No trial clock, no card on file.
Where it falls short — the honest part
I earn a commission if you sign up through my link, so this section matters more than the last one.
- Automation is basic even on paid plans. If you need branching logic and conditional journeys, GetResponse and Kit are simply better built for it. This is not a free-plan limitation; it is the product’s design.
- Segmentation is thin. Tagging works, but it is not dynamic segmentation.
- Page design ceiling. Templates are functional, not beautiful. Designers will be frustrated.
- Email deliverability reputation is younger. GetResponse has been running email infrastructure since 1998. That history counts for something.
- The 1-workflow limit arrives fast. Faster than the 2,000-contact limit, in almost every case. People assume contacts will be the binding constraint. It rarely is.
When should you upgrade?
The trigger is almost never the contact count. It is one of these:
- You want a second automated sequence
- You need to tell buyers apart from non-buyers
- You want more than 3 funnels or 15 steps
- You want to sell more than one product properly
The Startup plan at $17/month lifts you to 5,000 contacts, unlimited sales funnels and 5 courses. For context, GetResponse’s entry paid plan is $19/month for 1,000 contacts — so Systeme.io’s paid entry is cheaper and carries five times the contacts.
| Plan | Price | Contacts |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 2,000 |
| Startup | $17/month | 5,000 |
| Webinar | $47/month | 10,000 |
| Unlimited | $97/month | Unlimited |
All tiers include unlimited emails and 0% transaction fees.
Who should use Systeme.io — and who should not
Use it if…
- You are starting from zero and want to sell something, not just send newsletters
- You want funnels, email, checkout and course hosting in one place
- You would rather ship this week than configure for a month
- A predictable, flat bill matters to you
Look elsewhere if…
- You only want a newsletter → Kit’s free plan carries 10,000 subscribers, five times Systeme.io’s. I earn nothing from Kit; it is still the better choice for pure newsletters.
- Advanced automation is central → GetResponse
- Design quality is a priority → a dedicated site builder plus a separate email tool
Frequently asked questions
Is the Systeme.io free plan really free forever?
Yes. Systeme.io states the plan never expires and requires no credit card. It is a permanent tier, not a trial that downgrades.
How many emails can I send on the free plan?
Unlimited. The limit is on contacts (2,000), not on sends — unusual for a free plan, and one of the strongest things about it.
Can I sell a course on the free plan?
Yes. One course, unlimited students, 0% transaction fees. You will need a payment processor connected, and the single-workflow limit applies to any automation around the sale.
What is the difference between a workflow and an automation rule?
A rule is a simple trigger-and-action (“tag added → send email”). A workflow is a multi-step sequence. The free plan allows one of each, which is why a single lead-magnet delivery can consume most of your automation allowance.
Does Systeme.io put its branding on my pages?
Free-plan pages carry light Systeme.io branding. Your emails do not.
What happens at 2,001 contacts?
You upgrade to keep adding contacts. Existing data is not deleted.
The verdict
Systeme.io’s free plan is the most useful free tier available to a beginner who wants to sell something — not because of any single feature, but because it is the only one that covers the whole path from landing page to payment without a second tool or a credit card.
The caveat is real and worth repeating: one rule, one workflow, one tag, one campaign. Plan your first build around that constraint and the free plan will take you further than any competitor’s. Ignore it and you will hit a wall in week two and blame the tool.
For a beginner with no budget who wants a list and a product, this is where I would start.

How I test, and why you can trust this
- I pay for what I can. I bought the Hostinger Premium plan myself and this site runs on it. I use a real Systeme.io account, and the screenshots here come from it.
- Every number is checked and dated. Prices and plan limits come from the official pricing page or help documentation, and I state the date I checked them. SaaS pricing changes — a dated figure is an honest one.
- I do not invent experience. Where I have not used a tool myself, I say so and review it on verified features and pricing only.
- I say when a competitor wins. If a tool I earn nothing from is the better choice for you, that is what the post says.
- Affiliate links never change your price. They are marked, and they cost you nothing extra.
